2023 World Snow Sculpting Championship Video Stillwater Minnesota

Stillwater Snow Sculpture World Championship 2023

The second annual stillwater snow sculpture event known as the World Snow Sculpting Championship (WSSC) takes place January 18th through 22nd 2023. The world snow sculpting (wssc) event is downtown Stillwater Minnesota in Lowell Park north of the St Croix river historic lift bridge.

The event brings in teams from around the world who compete for creating the best creation. Each team is given a large block of snow to create their sculpture during the snow and cold, mainly during the day however also at night as the final day and judging nears. Once the judging and winner announced, there is a large outdoor party adjacent to the sculptures, along with indoor activities.

Friday Night Lights, 2023 WSSC Stillwater Minnesota

The following video chronicles from the week before the 2023 event including initial site preparations, setup, moving items, equipment in, as well as creating the large snow blocks. Sculpting kicks off on Wednesday morning with the teams working on their assigned block of snow to create their creation which progresses over the next several days and night. Crowds begin to visit the sculpture particular on the next to last, and last day of the event.

Pictures Over Stillwater Back To School  Fall 2020 Drones For Non Dummies Community Education Classes

Pictures Over Stillwater Back To School Fall 2020 schedule includes additional school districts, times, online and in-person, as well as new classes along with updated content. In addition to Stillwater Area Public Schools Community Education, earlier this year Pictures Over Stillwater added Anoka Hennepin Community Education to our schedule.

For fall 2020 we are excited to welcome additional districts including St Anthony and St Louis Park Minnesota community education to our schedule. Besides additional districts, Pictures Over Stillwater is also adding a new FAA Part 107 Commercial operator test prep class to the schedule as part of Stillwater Area Public Schools Community Education.

In addition, existing class content has also been updated to reflect new and emerging drone regulations for recreational and commercial drone operators among other topics. Note that Stillwater Area Public Schools community education are currently planned for in-person and may be subject to change or onclude online. All other Pictures Over Stillwater fall 2020 classes will be held online.

You will learn about basic drone safety, rules of the road and air, registration, certification, license, drone types, when, how and where to fly (or avoid). Bring your drone as a guest to participate in the discussions. Students ages 12-17 are welcome to attend with an adult. Don’t be a dummy, learn to fly drones safely.

Additional topics include what type of drone and camera equipment are best, as well as accessories and post processing tools. Students aged 12-17 may attend with an adult. Weather permitting a demonstration flight will be flown. Prerequisites: Drones Beyond the Basics or related experience.

Monday, October 12, 2020 – 6:00 to 8:00PM

Note: This is an in person class, may change to online
Stillwater Area High School : PAC – G113

This class provides insight and preparation tips for those planning on taking the FAA Part 107 Commercial UAS / UAV / Drone Operator certification test for the first time, or taking the two-year renewal. This is also a good for those who want to learn more advanced drone topics. Class will discuss what is in the test, along with tips on how to study, practice and prepare. Topics include rules, safety, operations, airspace, charts and weather considerations. It is strongly encouraged that students have the ASA Remote Pilot 2020 Test Prep book to follow along during class.

Prerequisites include either Drones Beyond the Basics course or hands on drone operation experience beyond the basics. Part 107 test prep book is available via Amazon (here).

Minnesota Wisconsin 9/11 #343run remembrance

2023 9/11 #343run Hudson WI #neverforget

Due to construction the 2023 #343run was moved from I94 near Afton Minnesota to across the river on highway 35 south of Hudson and north of River Falls Wisconsin. Attendees assembled on Monday evening 9/11/23 on the Tower and Coulee Road overpasses as the parade went south from Hudson towards River Falls before returning to the north. In addition to the various EMS, Fire, Rescue, Police, Sheriff, Highway Patrol and other first responders, an Air Force/National Guard C130 Cargo plane made two low “tactical” passes along the #343run route.

Pictures Over Stillwater Coverage of 2019 #343 9/11 Tribute

The following still and video images are from the 2019 #343 9/11 tribute event which has been held for several years. The event takes place on an overpass above Interstate 94 (I94) in eastern Minnesota (West Lakeland and Afton) near the Wisconsin (Hudson) border for 24 hours on 9/11.

 

This volunteer event has participants waving american flags as people head west during the morning rush hour towards twin cities Minneapolis St. Paul area along with others throughout the day. All night time still images and videos were captured by Pictures Over Stillwater under FAA Part 107.29 (daylight waiver) operating procedures (e.g. our Vampire crew, they fly at night).

Having an FAA Part 107.29 waiver enables Pictures Over Stillwater to fly 24 hours a day including at night weather permitting. In addition to having additional high-intensity multi-colored strobe lights (red, green, white)  visible from 3 miles on our aircraft, Part 107.29 operations also includes having trained visual observers (VOs) as part of our night safety crew as well as keeping aircraft (e.g. dones) within visual line of sight.

2019 Spring Flood Season

It is 2019 Spring Flood season in the upper Midwest including Minneapolis St. Paul twin cities metro area along with western Wisconsin, eastern Dakotas and elsewhere. In the Minneapolis St. Paul twin cities metro area, there are three major rivers all of which flow into the mighty Mississippi river, not to mention numerous smaller rivers, streams, creeks as well as other runoff.

For the 2019 Spring Flood season, in the Twin Cities metro, western Wisconsin, western as well as southern Minnesota as well as eastern Dakotas, February record-setting snow fall are now melting. Besides record February snow fall, there was a lack of snow cover in the Twin Cities metro and surrounding area in early January to protect against the extreme cold, thus driving frost deeper into the ground.

With frost being four plus feet deep, snowmelt that would normally start to seep into the ground is having to run off elsewhere which results into the area lakes, ponds, creeks, streams, small rivers and ultimately the Mississippi and other large rivers.
